The workshops we offer to universities are primarily targeted at geoscience departments, focusing on dissertation fieldwork.
They are designed to help students transition from traditional paper-based mapping to digital mapping using QGIS and QFIELD. As most geoscience industries have transitioned to digital mapping, this course will not only enhance the quality of dissertation projects but also give students a competitive edge in their careers.
These workshops are also suitable for geography and ecology departments.
This two-day course will help students refine their data and maps after their fieldwork, focusing on solving challenges and deepening their geological understanding of their mapping area.
This two-day course is designed to prepare students for their mapping dissertation, equipping them with essential tools for fieldwork and the resources needed to excel in both the development and understanding of their project.
Students will learn how to set up their own project in QGIS and how to collect data in the field using QFIELD. Students will learn how to integrate their field observation with digital processes.
The course will be structured in the form of hands-on tutorials and will require access to computers and a mobile device (tablet or smartphone). All the software products mentioned in our QGIS section are open-source and free to anyone.
After returning from their fieldwork, this two-day course will guide students in compiling, analysing, and refining their data and maps. The key focus is on developing the confidence and technical skills to tackle GIS-based challenges, enabling students to explore their mapping areas in far greater geological detail while becoming proficient users of QGIS.
QGIS provides a comprehensive set of powerful tools and plugins that allow students to conduct spatial, statistical, and geological analyses on their datasets and maps—offering capabilities far surpassing those achievable with just paper maps and Excel alone.
By the end of the course, students will walk away with:
Fully georeferenced and digitised maps consisting of their structural and lithological data, ready for further interpretation and inclusion in their dissertation or reports.
Digital geological cross-sections created directly from mapped data and elevation models.
3D terrain and subsurface visualisations, helping to visualise structural relationships in their field area.
Final map and report-ready figures suitable for dissertations and presentations.
As previously stated, the courses are primarily designed for geoscience students undertaking field geological mapping. However, the majority of the skills taught are easily applicable to geographical and ecological fieldwork.
With our cutting-edge drone services, we are now able to offer high-resolution aerial imagery, LiDAR, and inspections for difficult-to-reach areas. We recognize the value of research and offer discounted services to universities and research institutions.
